Ronan McCann is a music and sound production educator and musician based in Cork City, Ireland. He is a graduate of MTU Cork School of Music, where he obtained a 1st Class Honours MA in Music & Technology. He also holds a 1st Class Honours Professional Diploma in Education from the University of Galway and an Honours BA in Sociology & Spanish from University College Cork. Additionally, Ronan works as an Arts Youth Project Facilitator in Cork City and County. The latter role involves facilitation of workshops for music composition / production, filmmaking and other digital media.
Under the moniker CARRIED BY WAVES he has released three critically acclaimed albums – Softly Held Together (2012) and Resolute (2016) and Typology (2020).
Performing live as Carried By Waves, he was a staple on the Irish music festival scene for many years, performing at Electric Picnic, TULCA Arts Festival, Castlepalooza, Vantastival, Indiependence and the Hard Working Class Heroes festival. As a music producer, he has worked with several renowned artists, and worked on various film and video projects (see 'Video' and 'Music' credits for details & audio samples).
Ronan has taught Music Technology at Munster Technical University - Cork School of Music, and currently teaches Soundtracks & Sound Design at the Cork College of FET. In the latter role he has also taught Studio & Location Sound, Multimedia Sound, Desktop Multimedia Audio Production, Sound Engineering & Production, Music Technology, Music Industry Studies, Digital Movie Processing and Multimedia Project Development.
